Lifeguards, also known as pool guard, beach lifeguard or lifesavers, work at swimming pools, beaches and inland waterways and try to keep the swimmers safe. A lifeguard is tasked with observing and supervising swimming areas to prevent accidents. Other responsibilities include making swimmers aware of dangerous situations, and in an emergency situation carrying out a rescue procedure. A lifeguard has to always maintain his/her physical fitness in water and on land.

Entry Pathway
Minimum Qualification
After completing class 10 and being 18 years of age you can enroll for National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF)* level 4 lifeguard training. You must also know how to swim.
*NSQF is a nationally integrated education and competency-based framework that enables persons to acquire desired competency levels in chosen field. NSQF includes vocational educator vocational training, general education and technical education which prepares an individual for the job market with competent skills. An individual may return at any time to upgrade skills after gaining experience.

Places of Work: Swimming pools, Hotels, Adventure Sports, Sports Event Companies, Schools, Colleges, Corporate Training agencies and so on.
Work Environment: You have to work for at least 8 to 9 hours and for 5 to 6 days a week. Shift duties may be there. Overtime is common.

The approx. salary of a Lifeguard (Pool Lifeguard, Beach Lifeguard) ranges between INR 16,000 - 40,000* per month.
