The Indian Navy is the maritime branch of the Indian Armed Forces and is one of the most prestigious marine army forces in the world. An Indian Naval officer is expected to deter any and all marine threats to country and to aid the other two armed forces (army and air force) in neutralising any threat to the country. The job of an Indian Naval Officer also includes navigation, rescuing stranded castaways, and general maintenance and upkeep of heavy machinery.

Entry Pathway
1. Complete 10+2 in any stream, preferably the Science stream (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics)
2. You have to then appear for a written exam and then an interview. All candidates have to pass the physical and medical tests
OR
Complete a Bachelor’s degree in any science stream and appear for the Combined Defence Service Exam and interview. All candidates have to pass the physical and medical tests
OR
For technical entry, complete a Bachelor's degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Engineering after clearing entrance examinations such as JEE Advanced, JEE Main, MET, VITEEE, MHT CET, SRMJEE, COMEDK, UGET, KCET and so on. For entry into the Indian Armed Forces, you must clear various written examinations, an SSB interview and also various medical examinations, after which you can join the Officers Training Academy.

Places of Work: You can join the Indian Navy in any one of the 14 cadres broadly sorted into major branches such as Executive, Engineering, Electrical
Work Environment: The work timings are typically 6 to 7 days a week for 8 to 9 hours per day. Shift system is applicable. You are expected to deal with challenging situations. Most of the work is outdoors.

R. Meera - Hailing from the Achanakal village, Meera is the first woman Naval Officer from Badagas, the single largest ethnic community in Nilgiris. After completing 22 weeks of training, she graduated from the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, Kerala, to become a sub-lieutenant to join duty in the naval armament inspectorate cadre in Kochi.*
